It’s the season for peculiar press releases. I saw this one among the list of retail news releases that Yahoo puts on line every day, and had to share it here.
“In light of the recently updated Dietary Guidelines—which nearly doubled the recommendation to 4 1/2 cups of fresh, frozen or canned fruits and vegetables daily—Del Monte Foods (NYSE:DLM) believes that February's National Canned Food Month is the perfect time to celebrate the nutrition, convenience and great taste that canned food provides for today's busy consumers.”
National Canned Food Month. There’s a concept to lighten the heart and quicken the step. I’ll have to go out and buy those canned beans I’ve been putting off. Really. Three 11 oz. cans of Campbell’s pork and beans for a dollar, offer expires tomorrow.
Otherwise, February has gotten off to a decent start. Today was so warm--about 50 F., it was--that I walked from about 900 N. to my office at 20 N., a mile or so, with no cap, gloves or scarf. Puddles of melting snow were everywhere. It felt more like April 4 and February 4, but it’s a cruel jest on the part of nature. Winter’s not finished with us creatures who evolved on the tropical plains of Africa but who foolishly dwell too near the arctic.
